1.8 Supporting teachers to use learning technologies in the classroom

Description

This continuing activity will provide a new cohort of teachers opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills to integrate ICT in teaching and learning. Teachers will respond to the current and emerging learning needs of their students through participation in a broad range of professional development workshops that allow for interaction with ICT.

This will help teachers understand and connect the impact of students' background knowledge, skills, learning experiences and prior achievements with ICT outside their school environment. The activity will also include an opportunity for schools to:

  • investigate effective pedagogical strategies to integrate ICT through school based projects

  • pose questions, reflect, discuss, act, collaborate to find flexible alternatives to meet both subject and technology learning area needs, monitor and evaluate changes to their pedagogical practices.

Through school-based projects, teachers will have an opportunity to develop competence in designing relevant and engaging learning experiences that capitalise on the rapid innovations in digital information and communications technology. The activity will be managed by a designated officer who will take responsibility for meeting the professional needs of teachers participating in the activity. At this stage of the planning process it is not anticipated that there will be involvement by higher education institutions or professional associations.
