3.20 Quality assessment practices

Description

This activity is a new initiative. The purpose of our activity is to encourage schools to reflect on their current approaches to assessment and reporting and develop consistency in this area. Workshop opportunities will be provided for teachers to reflect on and refine their current pedagogical practice in light of the K-10 Standards Framework (Board of Studies, 2002, p7).

The activity will be managed by Diocesan Curriculum Advisors, who will take responsibility for meeting the professional needs of the teachers. At this stage of the planning process it is not anticipated that there will be involvement by higher education institutions or professional associations.

Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have engaged productively in collegial networks that extend and support knowledge and skills.

Access

K-6 classroom teachers in rural and remote areas

Design

The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:

  • clusters of schools working in collegial networks

  • teachers in the diocese will gather in cluster groups for a one day intensive workshop

  • input will be facilitated by the Diocesan Curriculum Advisors.

The second phase will involve school-based projects to engage teachers in workplace learning that is based on a cycle of continuous improvement model. In each school a mentor will lead initiatives derived from the initial workshop. Ongoing support and guidance will be provided to the mentors by Diocesan Curriculum Advisors.

This activity is a direct response to Australian and NSW Governments' regulations for assessment and reporting- School Assistance Regulation 2005 and NSW Government Registration Systems and Member Non- Government Schools Manual 2004.
