3.18 Pedagogy and technology

Description

This activity builds on the previous AGQTP activity of The Learning Agenda to further focus on the use of ICT within the curriculum. Focus groups within nominated schools will develop strategies for whole school activities that aims to revitalise learning and teaching and embed the use of technology.

The activity will be managed by a designated officer who will take responsibility for the activity meeting the professional needs of teachers. At this stage of the planning process it is not anticipated that there will be involvement by higher education institutions or professional associations.

Outcomes

Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will in their interactions with students, have an increased capacity to provide all students with opportunities to access and apply relevant learning in literacy, numeract and ICT.
Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have strengthened the currency and depth of their pedagogical knowledge and skills.

Access

Design

The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:


  • school-based projects to engage teachers in workplace learning that is based on a cycle of continuous improvement model

  • clusters of schools working in collegial networks

  • workplace mentoring and coaching aligned to meeting the NSW Institute of Teachers' professional teaching standards

  • flexible learning that includes components such as self-paced and facilitated online learning, face-to-face workshops, video and teleconferences, online mentors, and discussion groups

  • local, regional and state workshops and conferences that enable participants to have their work publicly celebrated and critiqued

  • onsite and offsite participation in knowledge building and skill sharing activities

  • partnerships for formal courses or awards

  • partnerships with professional associations and higher education institutions to provide expertise in the development, design and/or implementation of professional development activities.


Feedback from the 2006 AGQTP activity will inform school focus groups about effective strategies to improve learning and teaching and to make explicit links to the diocesan core statement on effective learning & teaching principals and practices.

Implementation

The implementation of the activity will be supported by a designated project officer, sector consultant, and school based professional learning team.

Workplace learning, online learning, mentoring, action learning project

Timeline

By May 2007:


  • focus groups established

  • action plan for school developed and commenced

  • submit progress report in May.


By November 2007:

  • evaluation of school action plan completed

  • recommendations developed for sustainable change in Learning and Teaching practices

  • planning for the future

  • submit annual report in November.
