3.16 TEACHnology for a click and go world

Description

This is a continuing activity for primary and secondary schools that will focus on supporting school communities in the innovative use of technology in order to enhance pedagogical practices. The activity has been evaluated and will be significantly refined in order to provide quality professional learning for teachers in relation to current pedagogy and the use of learning technology. The activity engages participants in reflective practice.

The activity will be managed by a team of learning officers who will take responsibility for meeting the professional needs of teachers participating in the activity.

The University of Wollongong is involved in the ongoing evaluation of the activity. They continue to accredit the activity as an eight credit point subject for post graduate study.

Outcomes

Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have strengthened the currency and depth of their pedagogical knowledge and skills.
Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have applied professional standards to make judgements about the success of their practice and areas for future development.

Access

Design

The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:


  • school-based projects to engage teachers in workplace learning that is based on a cycle of continuous improvement model

  • clusters of schools working in collegial networks

  • workplace mentoring and coaching

  • flexible learning that includes components such as self-paced and facilitated online learning, face-to-face workshops, video and teleconferences, online mentors, and discussion groups

  • local workshops that enable participants to have their work publicly celebrated and critiqued

  • onsite and offsite participation in knowledge building and skill sharing activities

  • partnerships for formal courses or awards

  • partnerships with higher education institutions to provide expertise in the development, design and/or implementation of professional development activities.


The activity that has been reviewed and refined as a result of teacher evaluations, the quality of the action research projects, identification of system priorities and consultations with schools regarding ongoing professional learning needs. The activity has been developed to the extent that it is now being delivered as a seamless approach to pedagogy and the use of technology. The activities will now include professional learning for principals, focus teacher leaders and teachers.

Implementation

The implementation of the activity will be supported by the following personnel: designated project officer, academics partner, system and school based professional learning teams.

Workplace learning, online learning, mentoring, action learning project workshops/course

Timeline

By May 2007:


  • publication strategy including identification of participants

  • design and development of project materials

  • design and development of on-line support

  • professional learning workshops for principals and assistant principals, focus teacher leaders 8 x 1 day workshops

  • submit progress report in May.


By November 2007:

  • professional learning workshops for primary and secondary teachers teacher eight x one day workshops

  • school based planning

  • action research projects developed and presented

  • submit annual report in November.
