1.5 Lesson study in Stage 6 mathematics and science

Description
This is a new Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme activity. Teachers will be engaged in professional learning of creative teaching strategies in Stage 6 Mathematics (General, Mathematics, Extension 1) and Stage 6 Science (physics, chemistry, biology, senior science). Teachers will engage in a lesson study based on these and other teaching and learning strategies. The lesson study will be communicated between schools using a Windows Share Point service web site located within the school system web site.
The activity will be managed by an officer from the Bathurst Catholic Education Office with support from a task group comprised of representatives from Stage 6 schools. The designated managing officer will take responsibility for the activity meeting the professional needs of teachers. It is envisaged Teacher Training Australia or a similar agency will be contracted to deliver the professional learning sessions in the subjects outlined above.

Outcomes
Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have strengthened the currency and depth of their learning area knowledge and understandings.
Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have engaged productively in collegial networks that extend and support knowledge and skills.

Design
The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:
- school-based projects that engage teachers in workplace learning based on a cycles of continuous improvement
- clusters of schools working in collegial networks
- partnerships with professional associations and higher education institutions to provide expertise in the development, design and/or implementation of professional development activities.
Implementation
The implementation of the activity will be supported by the following personnel: designated project officer, school based professional learning team, external provider.
