3.9 Assessment K-12: Developing sound assessment practices
Back |
Description
This is a continuing activity designed to support primary and secondary classroom teachers to develop, in a collaborative way, assessment practices that will support student learning. Assessment is an integral part of the teaching/learning cycle and as such it influences the quality of teaching as well as the quality of learning.
This project will concentrate on supporting schools in the ongoing development of quality assessment practices and strategies. It will provide time for teachers to reflect on and refine assessment in line with current best practice and within the Quality teaching framework, as well as ensuring that assessment provides enough and a variety of evidence upon which to base A-E grades for twice-yearly reporting requirements.
The activity will be managed by a designated officer who will take responsibility for the activity meeting the professional needs of teachers. At this stage it is not anticipated that there will be involvement by higher education institutions or professional associations, but will be supported by curriculum officers and school-based professional learning teams.

- flexible learning that includes components such as self-paced and facilitated online learning, face-to-face workshops, video and teleconferences, online mentors, and discussion groups
- local, regional and state workshops and conferences that enable participants to have their work publicly celebrated and critiqued
- provision of Key Learning Area and other teacher groups to work in collegial networks, especially in relation to developing consistent teacher judgement.
