3.16 Positive behaviour for learning

Description
This is a new activity. It links with projects connected to National Safe Schools Framework, Values Education and Restorative Justice. It will provide an opportunity for primary and secondary schools to building schools capacities to deal with students presenting with challenging behaviours. This activity will provide specific professional learning initiatives for teachers in setting up processes and procedures on three levels of behaviour management - preventative, corrective and additional support.
The activity will be managed by a designated officer who will take responsibility for the activity meeting the professional needs of teachers.
The implementation of the activity will be supported by the diocesan-based personnel: who will work with school-based professional learning teams.

Outcomes
Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have engaged productively in collegial networks that extend and support knowledge and skills.
Through participation in an AGQTP project, teachers will have applied professional standards to make judgements about the success of their practice and areas for future development.
Access
Targeted Catholic Education Commission schools/teachers.
Design
The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:
- school-based projects to engage teachers in workplace learning that is based on a cycle of continuous improvement model
- clusters of schools working in collegial networks
- flexible learning that includes components such as facilitated online learning, face-to-face workshops, online mentors and discussion groups
- local and regional workshops and conferences that enable participants to have their work publicly celebrated and critiqued
- onsite and offsite participation in knowledge building and skill sharing activities
- participation in formal courses or awards.
Implementation
The implementation of the activity will be supported by the following personnel: designated project officer and sector consultant/s.

Mentoring, resource development, Cluster/Precinct workshops, Workshops/course
Timeline
By June 2008:
- training staff within the Diocesan consultancy team and selected school personnel (pilot schools)
- progress report submitted in June.
By December 2008:
- rollout to wider school pilot
- annual report submitted in November.
