Description

This is a continuing activity. It is designed to meet the professional learning of new scheme teachers and highly experienced teachers by providing opportunities, through action learning projects, for these teachers to achieve accreditation through the NSW Institute of Teachers.

New scheme teachers will work with their supervisors to achieve the standards of Professional Competence. Highly experienced teachers will mentor and support their colleagues and thereby work towards meeting the standards for Professional Accomplishment and Professional Leadership. The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:


This activity, supporting the implementation of the NSW professional teaching standards, is a continuation of the activity commenced in 2006, continued in 2007 and 2008, and is linked to the NSW initiative of supporting teachers to achieve professional teaching standards.
Feedback received from participants indicated that action learning projects and professional development workshops have been effective in supporting teachers participating in accreditation through the NSW Institute of Teachers. Feedback obtained from teachers who have participated in workshop and school-based action learning projects together with information provided by the NSW Institute of Teachers will inform the workshop content in 2009.

Implementation

The activity will be managed by a designated officer(s) who will take responsibility for meeting the professional needs of teachers participating in the activity.
