3.09 Developing sound teaching and assessment practices incorporating effective use of ICT

Description
This activity is designed to support primary and secondary teachers to develop and up-skill in teaching and assessment practices and engaging students in their learning by effectively using ICT tools. This project will focus on supporting schools in the ongoing development of quality teaching and assessment practices and strategies. It will provide teachers with some resourcing tools to enable them to reflect on how best to embed ICT into their teaching and learning and assessment opportunities within the Quality Teaching Framework.At this stage of the planning process higher education institutions and other associations have not been involved however there may be opportunity to do so during the course of the project.

Outcomes
Through participation in an project, teachers will have strengthened the currency and depth of their pedagogical knowledge and skills.
Through participation in an project, teachers will in their interactions with students, have an increased capacity to provide inclusive learning environments within which all students can participate as active and engaged learners.
Access
Targeted Catholic Education Commission schools/teachers.
Design
The professional learning strategy for this activity includes:
- School-based projects to engage teachers in workplace learning that includes that is based on a cycle of continuous improvement model.
- Clusters of schools connecting through collegial networks.
- Workplace mentoring and coaching aligned to meeting the NSW Institute of Teachers
- Flexible learning that includes components such as self-paced and facilitated online learning, face-to-face workshops, video and teleconferences, online mentors, and discussion groups.
- Local, regional and state workshops and conferences that enable participants to have their work publicly celebrated and critiqued.
- Onsite and offsite participation in knowledge building and skill sharing activities
- Partnerships for formal courses or awards.
- Participation in formal courses for teachers in both primary and secondary in the area of ICT professional development particularly in the area of embedding ICT into their regular teaching.
- Provision of KLA and other teacher groups to work in collegial networks, especially in relation to developing assessment opportunities that require deep knowledge and critical thinking and processes for consistent teacher judgement.
Implementation
The implementation of the activity will be supported by the designated project officer.
Delivery
Workplace learning, online learning, mentoring and workshops/course.
Timeline
By May 2009:
- Schools have applied for a grant to respond to this project to address teaching and assessment practices incorporating ICT
- Schools have undertaken key work including ICT courses to address teacher professional development in this area.
- Progress report submitted in May
By December 2009:
- Local workshop/conference/forum held to showcase school projects/ work undertaken.
- Annual report submitted in December.
