Background

The process for developing scenarios or cases to enhance the leadership capacity of head teachers of Mathematics and English Background The purpose of the project was to develop a scenario-based learning product and process to enhance the leadership capacity of head teachers and aspiring head teachers in Mathematics and English. The leadership areas identified were supervision, professional development of the faculty staff, pedagogical leadership, student welfare, resource management and team building.

The coordinator researched the topic, brainstormed and shared ideas with colleagues and convened a reference group. The aim was to come up with ideas for a process to facilitate the writing of the scenarios, a model to construct the scenarios and to select the Head Teachers to develop the scenarios during the planned two-day writing workshops.

Background

The cases developed below are an extension of AGQTP 2003- 2004 Faculty Leadership in Mathematics and English, using a case-based learning approach to professional development.

The purpose of this project was to enhance the leadership capacity of school executive in designing and developing a school-based professional learning plan. A constructivist approach was utilised to develop and pilot facilitation processes for developing professional learning plans as key components of school plans.

Cases and facilitation processes have been constructed to take into account authentic contexts in which school leaders work, and reflect the complexity of school environments and the uniqueness of teachers and leaders work within these environments.
